How Does the AML Detective Work?

The AML Detective is a solution which searches the OFAC and other SDN lists based on your customer details entered. These can be an individual, company or vessel name. The system has been designed to record all actions undertaken so as to provide a comprehensive audit trail.

There are 2 solutions available, a web based solution via the internet or alternatively via your own internal network (special conditions apply for the internal network, please contact us for further information).

User Id's

In both solutions you are supplied with a secure userid and password which enables your institution to use the AML Detective. With this User ID you have the ability to create further User IDs for your employees as required.

An advantage of multiple User ID's means the Audit Trail can distinguish between those people in your organization who conduct your searches. This provides a better Audit trail.

Searches

Searches are performed by checking the special SDN list files against the customer details you enter.

When a search is performed there are 3 possible outcomes :

  • no match, the input customer details were not matched against any list
  • fuzzy match, the input customer details matched partially against 1 or more entries on any list
  • exact match, the input customer details matched exactly with an entry on any list

Once a search is done you can optionally at any time update a search result to preserve your full audit trail. For example you can record that a customer which "fuzzy" or  "exact" matched was a bona fide customer and that you have recorded the search as a "no" match after performing further identity checks on the individual.

* Note : The AML Detective does not delete your search transaction data and audit trail reports.  These are saved to ensure you have a complete on-line audit trail of all searches performed.

Search Types

There are 2 types of searches available :

  • online search to check a single customer name
  • online search which rescans all of your historical customer data

Single Customer Scan

A search you would perform on each and every customer as they become known to you.

Historical Customer Scan

This search option is one of the most important search features available as it allows you to scan all customer names you have previously entered against the SDN List files. Because the SDN list files are changing constantly a customer which once may have passed a search may now fail !

Whilst in many businesses it is unlikely you may never see the customer again (e.g. they make a one off purchase) it is important that you identify such occurences and report them to the authorities as you find them.

Audit Trail

A comprehensive audit trail is maintained of all searches and actions performed in the AML Detective such as search result, result updates and exclusions.

Excel Spreadsheet

You can download reports from the AML Detective into Excel spreadsheets which can be saved on your computer.

OFAC SDN List Files

Web Interactive Solutions will update the AML Detective with the latest versions of the OFAC SDN list files as they become available thus ensuring you perform searches against the most up to date list files.
